I’m a bit of a sucker for spiced beef but I’ve yet to try to make it from scratch. But, I know guy who does though and his spiced beef recipe is well worth checking out!
No, I instead visit the boys in my local butchers, Fenelons and secure my beef from them….it’s award winning and simply incredible. But this year I wanted to try something a bit different instead of the usual cold cut platter hence the birth of my Spiced Beef Reuben.
The traditional Reuben sandwich is a heady mix of Russian dressing, Sauerkraut and Swiss cheese contained within toasted sourdough..it is simply incredible and if you want the really good stuff…..well….ya gotta get yourself to Brooklyn NY!
Or, try this recipe on for size!
WHAT YOU NEED: 1 big assed Rueben
HOW YO DO IT:
Kick things off by making the incredible Russian Dressing – the heart and soul of this beauty. Add the mayo, horseradish. Worcestershire and tomato ketchup to a bowl and combine well to make a thick sauce. The dressing should pack a punch and be fiery so adjust the Horseradish as you want.
Next build the Reuben in the following layers:
Slice of sourdough
Generous painting of Russian Dressing
sauerkraut
Lots of Spiced beef
sauerkraut
Cheese
Slice of sourdough (also painted with the dressing)
Next simply pop under a screaming hot grill and toast up on both sides until the cheese oozes.
So, an alternative to the platter of spiced beef cold cuts – get a bit more exciting with this bad boy!
Awesome! Thanks for the link. I particularly like this because I have a second spiced beef curing for New Year. Now I know what’s being done first.
No worries Conor, your spiced beef recipe is on my list but I was lazy this year and the lads up in Fenelons do a mean Spiced beef!
What a gorgeous sandwich!
Thanks – it lasted all of about 20seconds
I made similar yesterday. It was really fantastic. Great job.
Ah, hard to beat these little things Conor!!
